In the fall of 2002, an email
circulated calling for a boycott of the US Postal Service stamp honoring the
Islamic Eid holiday because of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The
only problem with the claim is that the issuance of the stamp had nothing to do
with terrorism, but was part of the USPS holiday stamp rotation policy which
has been in place for a long time. A new stamp is issued for various religions
on a rotation, and the specific stamp release was long planned. Boycott Watch
issued a
report busting the false email which was circulating, and issued a
second
report busting it again in 2003.
That claim
subsided but recently reappeared with the same wording but with a different
stamp, this one with the same claim and same wording, but as you can see with
this stamp, it is a custom stamp anyone can order from
Zazzle.com, a company which prints almost
any postage stamp you want using your design or photo. In this case, it is a
stock design. So, you won't be seeing these being sold at your local post
office. While the stamp is real, the accompanying email contains false
information.

44-Cent First Class Holiday Postage Stamp.
REMEMBER to adamantly &
vocally BOYCOTT this stamp, when you are purchasing your stamps at the post
office.
All you have to say is " No thank you, I do not want that
Muslim Stamp on my letters! "
To use this stamp would be a slap in the
face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp
honors.
